As a Junior IT Test Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our strategic IT projects and routine operations. Your primary responsibility will be to help us mitigate risks and ensure the delivery of top-quality products by contributing to our testing processes.

You'll get hands-on experience in developing and executing robust test automation processes, directly contributing to our ongoing mission to innovate and enhance our software testing procedures. This role may require occasional travel to our other UK offices.

The team

The IT Strategy & Delivery Team

The Junior IT Test Engineer will be a part of the IT Strategy and Delivery Team, specifically the IT Test Team. This team is responsible for setting the direction for the use and investment in technology that supports Addleshaw Goddard's business strategy, and delivery of the new IT solutions that underpin the required business change.

Your role in the Test Team

In your capacity as a Junior Test Engineer, you will become a valuable member of our team, playing a crucial role in planning, designing, managing, and executing tests. You will use appropriate testing tools and techniques, adhering to established process standards and industry-specific regulations.

Your contribution will greatly enhance our team's testing and reporting efforts. Furthermore, by working alongside other Test Engineers, you will embark on a journey of professional development and growth, gaining invaluable insights and experience in the field of software testing.

Describe in brief

  • You will start a training journey that will teach you the core skills needed to be a Junior Test Engineer as you work towards your ISQTB certifications.
  • Assisting in all test related activities within a test phase, accurately recording and communicating risks and issues found during test phases.
  • Collaborating with development and multi-task effectively, prioritising and planning own time to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Assisting in Defect Management processes.
  • Assisting in planning and executing testing of simple to complex projects and BAU activities including operational and infrastructure changes.
  • Assisting in the creation of Test Documentation based on requirements and test execution analysis.
  • Providing support to areas of the Business during UAT and Test Governance.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise 

The suitable candidate will have

  • Assists in all test-related activities within a test phase, accurately records and communicates risks and issues found during test phases and contributes to test reporting.
  • Shows eagerness to learn different tools and latest techniques, collaborates with the development team under guidance, effectively handles multiple tasks, and learns to prioritise and plan their own time to meet deadlines.
  • Displays good interpersonal skills that foster positive working relationships at all levels, communicates confidently, particularly as a team player in a learning environment.
  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders (business users, project managers, third-party vendors, and IT colleagues) to assist in identifying testing issues early and seeking quick resolutions with the appropriate teams.
  • Participates in Defect Management processes, including assisting in Defect Triage to ensure that defects are reviewed and prioritised with appropriate stakeholders by learning and following the full defect management process.
  • Planning and executing testing for a range of projects from simple to complex, as well as routine business activities, including operational and infrastructure changes.
  • Contributing to the Test Documentation (Test Strategy, Test Plan, Automation approach and Test Closure Report) based on requirements and test execution analysis.
  • Possesses some foundational experience or knowledge in testing, spanning Manual, Automation, or displays a strong desire and commitment to enter the testing profession and can demonstrate relevant knowledge for the role.
  • Has an understanding or willingness to learn about Test management tools.

Desirable

  • Testing experience manual, automation, and familiarity with Azure DevOps.
  • Finance and Legal systems testing experience.
  • Knowledge of testing or working towards a ISTQB foundation.
  • Holds a degree in a STEM-related field, although candidates with non-STEM degrees will also be considered if they can demonstrate a strong interest in testing.
