Contributing to CRU’s Iron Ore research through close collaboration with our lead Iron Ore Analyst and the wider Steelmaking Raw Materials Team. 

Key Responsibilities & accountabilities

Knowledge, data analysis, and modelling

  • Engage with the market to develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the steel industry.
  • Understand, maintain, and use existing models and processes to deliver insightful analytical content.
  • Maintain key datasets for areas of specialisation to a high standard, ensuring these are integrated with wider supply chain data.

Contributor to services

  • Support product and service deliveries, ensuring deadlines are always met.
  • Collaborate with a team of analysts to deliver cohesive and comprehensive analysis of iron ore markets that is integrated with our wider view of the steel industry.

Communication

  • Create and communicate data driven analysis of market developments and issues that are compelling, logical, and cohesive.
  • Edit and be a key contributor to regular team reports.
  • Write timely insights covering developments in the steel market.

Customer engagement and market awareness

  • Conduct and participate in customer meetings, holding internal and external presentations.
  • Build and establish a network of market contacts to engage in market discussions with the purpose of obtaining important market information.
  • Respond to customer and internal requests for data and opinions on area of market expertise.
  • Forge solid customer relationships that help our services become embedded in customers workflows.

Training and collaboration

  • Proactively gather and appropriately share relevant knowledge and intelligence across the Steel Team and wider CRU business.
  • Collaborate with team members and other CRU analysts and consultants for learning and sharing best practice.

  • Further formal qualifications and/or relevant industry experience are advantageous.
  • Analytical skills: The ability to critically analyse gathered “soft” and “hard” data. A person that can quickly identify key trends and drivers to generate perceptive conclusions and unique insight.
  • Communication skills: Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Numeracy: Familiarity with handling large data sets and understanding mathematical concepts and processes. Someone who can interpret, manipulate, and manage data.
  • IT Skills: Excellent Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and data management skills as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of steel or metals production processes and supply chains are a plus.
