The Graduate Fire Consultant role is a position designed to develop a credible graduate candidate with limited fire authority / consultancy experience into a well experienced fire consultant proficient in a wide variety of fire safety disciplines including client management, fire engineering, construction site inspection and risk assessment. In order to develop your personal skillset, it is recognised that you will require a certain amount of support, mentoring and onsite-shadowing however it is considered the opportunities presented to you will be significant allowing you to establish a solid career in fire consultancy.

In order to ensure you are consistently capable of achieving the standards of development required, reviews will be undertaken during the initial 6 month probation period at 1, 3 and 6 months.

During these review processes, you will be informed if you have met the standard expected of you within the preceding interval, and will be instructed where improvements are required.

Review process

1 month

  • Ability to manage workbench processes, timekeeping, expenses, communications, company / client navigation.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of the following key guidance documents:
    • Approved Document B [1] and [2]
    • Bs 9999
    • Bs 9991
    • Purpose Built Block of Flats Guide
    • LACORS Guide
    • CLG Guidance

3 months

  • Ability to undertake type 1 FRA, fire door survey, basic client consultancy, compartmentation surveys and provide client training.

6 months

  • Ability to undertake type 2, 3 and 4 FRA’s, supervise fire safety on construction projects, pre-occupation fire risk assessment, undertake and research complex client consultancy.

Achieving the minimum standards outlined above to the satisfaction of the Head of Fire Consultancy will result in cessation of the probation period and a review of your salary.

Beyond the 6 month probationary period, and upon successful full employment, your progression will be reviewed in line with the Frankham Group policy and salary will be reviewed on a regular basis to account for your duties, role and responsibilities and will be increased based on merit and performance.

12 months

After probation continuing progression would be expected to be:

  • Fire strategy document (basic premises)
  • Undertake cladding inspection survey
  • BS 9997 fire risk management reviews
  • Client relationship manager function
