Overview

The Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC) is the regulatory body for the finance sector in Guernsey. The Commission’s primary objective is to regulate and supervise financial services in Guernsey, with integrity, proportionality and professional excellence, and in so doing, help to uphold the international reputation of Guernsey as a finance centre.

Operating in a complex, dynamic and unique environment the Commission is conscious that the development of its staff is of paramount importance if it is to maintain its high standard of regulation in the Guernsey finance industry. GFSC have over 100 staff based in their offices in St Peter Port - the capital of Guernsey and one of Europe's prettiest harbour towns (complete with cobbled streets and picturesque seafront marina). The Commission is looking to recruit graduates for their Graduate Development Programme (“GDP”) to start assoon as possible.

The Role

The GDP enables candidates to learn all the skills required to become a successful analyst within the GFSC. During the programme candidates will undertake placements across some of the following divisions:

  • Banking and Insurance 
  • Investment, Fiduciary and Pension 
  • Financial Crime 
  • Enforcement
  • Authorisations and Innovation
  • Risk and Operations

Within these division placements, graduates will be:

  • Analysing key areas of regulated entities including business models, corporate governance and approach to risk
  • Undertaking on-site visits to companies to conduct interviews with key directors and staff
  • Identifying and assessing key risks within companies, and where appropriate, helping to develop plans to mitigate those risks

During the programme the graduate will also undertake and learn general tasks such as writing reports and letters, project research and making recommendations, on-site visits plus many more aspects of the role.

Candidate Requirements

Successful applicants for the GDP are expected to have the following key attributes: 

  • A clear ambition to work on the regulation side of the financial services sector
  • The ability to form opinions, analyse information and exercise sound judgement
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • A high standard of written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivation and good organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • A willingness to learn from experience to perform in various situations
  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships through communication with their colleagues
  • 2:1 or above in any degree discipline

Process

  • Technical interview in Guernsey with two Deputy Directors from supervisory Divisions
