What you'll be doing

The key thing to know is that your role will be broad and diverse, giving you the opportunity of first-hand experience to several different roles within the GOps and GCSO business areas. GOps and GCSO sit at the heart of everything that LGIM does, providing support across different asset classes and fund structures, working with Internal and External stakeholders including LGIM’s client base to ensure a smooth front to back workflow.

The programme is designed to give you the fundamental experience and skill set to excel in the world of investment management. Your first 2 years with LGIM will see you rotate each year through 3 different business functions within GOps and GCSO, developing your professional network and expanding on your quantitative and qualitative skills.  There will be cohort specific training sessions in the form of online, in-person or a combination of both, to help you on your journey.  You’ll have the opportunity to gain professional accreditation through completion of industry qualifications (i.e IOC, IMC ) and/or CFA Level 1 for some.  Throughout your first year you will be able to make an informed decision as to which qualification suits you.  By the time you reach the end of the programme, we hope you will have built a clearer picture of where your interests and experience can take you within both LGIM and the industry more generally.

You will be based in Cardiff, working alongside our London teams, benefitting from visits and networking events with senior staff at our London office. We will also assign you a ‘buddy,’ a vital resource of support for your growth.

 As part of the GOps and GCSO business areas within LGIM, you could be developing expertise within:

  • Derivative Ops – Collateral Management, Derivative Trade Support, Private Credit Support
  • Trade & Asset Services – Trade processing & settlement, Income & Claims, Corporate Actions, Cash Management Funding, Regulatory Reporting
  • Funds Services & Reporting – Funds Oversight; Valuations; Fund Accounting
  • Performance and Attribution
  • Business Management – Governance and Risk management, Reporting & MI
  • Business Change & Client Solutions – Client Onboarding, Counterparty Onboarding, change pipeline delivery
  • Investment Guideline Monitoring and Controls
  • Client Order Management
  • Retail Operations
  • Client Reporting & Fund Reporting

Don’t worry if some of this sounds new to you – this is what you’ll be here to learn!

Within these business areas, we’ll look to you to provide support in several areas, which could include administration, processing, research & analysis and helping with client queries. 

Some of the day-to-day activities could include

  • Supporting LGIM’s global post trade and asset lifecycle activities
  • Supporting LGIMs global fund services & reporting activities
  • Checking and reviewing fund management performance calculations
  • Producing material to be used for pitching new clients
  • Producing material for management updates
  • Supporting operational risks and operational resilience testing and updating artefacts
  • Helping to identify operational solutions for new and existing business
  • Team specific and cohort-wide joint projects

Additional development opportunities

As well as working in established teams within GOps and GCSO, you will also gain further insight of the investment industry and self-development through: -

  • Business Awareness spotlight sessions presented by senior managers (e.g Global Trading, Product, Client implementation, Legal, Investment teams, regional offices such as Asia and USA)
  • Access to our Learning and Development hub – range of online self-development courses
  • Meet with Senior Leadership team in GOps and GCSO to provide feedback on the scheme and shape its future

What we're looking for

First and foremost, we are looking for people with an inquisitive mind and a desire to learn. We’re not expecting prior industry experience, but we’ll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. These include:

  • 2.1 Degree in any subject – we are open to all subject backgrounds
  • Analytical mind-set, with a high level of numeracy
  • Great communication skills, written and verbal
  • Flexible and a team-player
  • High levels of energy, dynamism and commitment
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively
