The Times and The Sunday Times are looking for two graduate newsroom developers with an enthusiasm for data-led storytelling to join our two-year training scheme.

Data journalism is essential to our news coverage. As part of the Data Team, you will work on a mixture of breaking news, visual explainers and longer-term investigations, building bespoke visualisations and interactives. In the biggest election year ever, you will get to work on some of our most exciting data and visual stories.

Candidates with a background in either software development or data journalism are encouraged to apply.

The two-year training scheme is based in London and includes formal training as well as on-the-job mentoring, training and development projects.

If you are offered a traineeship, you will start work at the end of August 2024.

What we’re looking for from you

  • Front-end development skills, including Javascript / React / Node
  • Some experience with the D3 library, or rendering graphics using SVG or Canvas
  • A graphical eye for clear and concise visualisation
  • Strong interest in news and current affairs
  • Is comfortable working with data and spreadsheets
  • Enjoys collaborating with others and works well in groups
  • Can clearly and articulately express ideas
  • A positive, flexible attitude to your work
  • Works well under pressure and to deadlines
