The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to recruit a talented Research Assistant.

The successful candidate will join the infection biology team led by Prof Jose Bengoechea in the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine. We focus on understanding how antibiotic resistant infections counteract our defences to inform the development of novel treatments.

This position is a collaborative project with the company VaxDyn to develop new therapeutics against the human pathogen Klebsiella pneumoniae and it involves assessing the efficacy of functional antibodies in vitro and in vivo. This position is suited to a highly ambitious, productive, and collaborative individual.

About you

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

  • Degree in immunology, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, or a relevant biomedical science.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in at least two of the following:
    • Tissue culture.
    • Genetic modification of enteric pathogens.
    • Infection of cells with bacterial pathogens.
    • Western blotting, ELISAs and cell death assays.
    • Infection of the mouse model.

This post is available on a fixed term contract for 18 months, or available until 31/10/2025, whichever is sooner. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
