Opportunity for a Graduate Water Environment Consultant to join our growing team in Cheltenham, GL50 3QQ, in autumn 2024.

As a Graduate Water Environment Consultant you will deliver hydraulic modelling to support nature-based solutions, FCERM scheme design, Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies which inform design. Current projects include the redevelopment of a brownfield site in Canterbury for residential development, supporting local authorities in utilising natural flood management techniques to alleviate flood risk and supporting strategic redevelopment schemes in Bristol City Centre.

The role

In this role you will work closely with the existing team of Director, Associate Director, Consultant, Consultant and experienced Graduate Consultant. It is an unusually rich concentration of skills and experience and a great team to learn from and launch your career in water environment consultancy.

What you will be doing (with the guidance and support of colleagues):

  • Implementing 1D and 2D modelling techniques for river and urban flooding applications
  • Implementing flood risk management techniques and methods including option appraisals
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams
  • Writing and reviewing technical reports

What you will need

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant subject (including and not limited to Geography, Civil Engineering, Hydrology and Water)
  • Demonstrate and articulate your talent and motivation to become a water environment consultant
  • Ability to research and to write high quality reports (typically demonstrated through your studies or work experience)
  • Some knowledge of 1D or 2D hydraulic modelling software packages for flood risk and/or environmental management purposes (HEC-RAS, HEC-2D, Flood Modeller-TUFLOW), gained through studies, work experience and or personal research
  • Some knowledge of flood risk management techniques and methods including option appraisals, gained through studies, work experience and or personal research
  • Some knowledge of the planning process
  • Experience in collaborative working, with good people skills and able to communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders and colleagues
  • Some knowledge/ awareness of UK hydrological methodologies and flood risk management policy
