About the team

Roku continues on a long-term trajectory of supporting summer internship roles within the organization, to provide applicants with experience of our enthusiasm, expertise and company culture.

The Advanced Development, Internet Content (IC) team within the Engineering organization has been granted 5 summer internships in 2024. These internships are only available to postgraduate students who are currently studying for a PhD or have recently successfully completed a PhD.

About the role

The purpose of the internship is to involve each student in the work of the Internet Content team. Each student will be allocated a supervisor within the senior members of the team. The aims of this supervision are to ensure that:

  • the intern can make the most of their time at Roku and deliver according to their project goals;
  • the intern finishes their contract with a clear view of what permanent employment within the Internet Content team would be like;
  • the company has a thorough assessment of the intern’s suitability for working at Roku and whether a permanent contract offer would be appropriate.

All the intern projects will be clearly defined at the outset, easy to get started and challenging to complete, and relevant to the Internet Content (IC) team’s Q3 and Q4 2024 goals.

  • Contribute meaningfully to the implementation and delivery of the project.
  • Identify and communicate key learnings within and across project teams.
  • Actively partner with experts in project field in Cambridge, and internationally.

The intern may also be asked to make contributions to the ongoing work of the Internet Content team in delivering their goals for 2024. Where this has occurred, the intern’s supervisor will add that contribution to the assessment of the intern relative to their other responsibilities.

The Roku culture

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We’re independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
