We are launching our Graduate Management Programme for 2024 where we are recruiting at least 20 Graduates to welcome into the business who will work with us to bring their talents, share their enthusiasm, and motivation and become our leaders of the future.

How does our Engineering Graduate programme work?

The Programme will launch on Monday 16th September 2024, it is a full-time, permanent opportunity working in our business based in the South West region. During this time, we help you discover your potential through a range of learning opportunities.

As part of the two-year programme your placement will be within our Engineering department where you’ll be able to put your degree to good use by gaining valuable hands-on experience across a broad range of critical business activities in our Engineering Directorate before looking to specialise. Working with existing teams, the programme will comprise of 6-month rotations though four of the following areas:

  • Programme Development:  you will gain an understanding of wastewater networks and the environmental challenges these networks must overcome
  • Delivery: you will assistant project management and project coordination of planned “Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation” (MEICA) projects
  • Developer Services: You will delivery projects for New Appointee Variation (NAV) and Self Lay (SLP) in accordance with industry guidance. You’ll gain an understanding of clean and waste networks, and the options developers have in the delivery of those assets
  • Energy: you will support the Energy Team in the delivery of Net Zero ambitions. You’ll also, assist the development of smarter Energy & Carbon reporting, monitoring and efficiency opportunities, developing and delivery of feasibility studies
  • Commercials& Contracts: you’ll be working with a variety of SME’s and SWW partners, providing NEC contract management support services for one-off, bespoke and framework contracts, whilst ensuring commercial governance is assured for investments
  • Estates: The focus here is to enable access to third-party land to supply water and sewerage services

What can you expect?

A comprehensive week-long induction programme where you will network with colleagues in our business to learn more about us, the Graduate Programme and development opportunities. You will attend site visits and meet our Directors and CEO

Hands-on experience with varied, challenging projects. You will have the flexibility to choose your career path as you gain exposure to areas within our Engineering department

You will receive ongoing training to equip you within your placement throughout the two years. Your manager will support you and give you the tools and training you need on the job. You will spend 1-day a week working towards a qualification which will compliment your learning and development which will be delivered by our college provider

You will be assigned a buddy and mentor who will support you when you start and throughout the programme. You will be able to build networks with your fellow graduates as well as senior leaders across the business

What we need from you

We are interested in your interpersonal skills, your capability to learn and positively contribute. Our ideal Engineering Graduate will be:

  • Educated to degree level in Engineering or energy-related subject
  • Motivated, passionate, adaptable, and driven to achieve goals and objectives
  • Flexibility is important, you’ll be joining a large and busy team
  • You should expect to be taken out of your comfort zone and discover something new all the time –a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn will be key
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills, with the ability to consider data and evidence, the ability to draw out implications of different options and make recommendations
  • Understand, or interest in learning about, the regulatory aspects of the water industry
  • Able to work accurately, prioritise work and manage time effectively
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to colleagues, at all levels, throughout the business
