Purpose

The IT & Data Auditor will be required to:

  • Assist the Audit Team in planning, executing, and reporting on audits of IT and Data Management controls and change/project management processes, in accordance with professional standards and best practices.
  • Support the Audit Team with the delivery of audits by providing data analytics to test controls, identify anomalies, and evaluate risks, using various tools and techniques.
  • Document audit findings and recommendations, ensuring they are clear, concise, and supported by sufficient evidence.
  • Support the Audit Team in communicating audit results to management and other stakeholders, in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist in the follow-up of audit recommendations to ensure their timely implementation.

Examples of key activities

The IT & Data Auditor will be required to:

  • Assist the Audit Team in planning, executing, reporting, and following up on IT and change / transformation audits, ensuring adherence to time and quality standards.
  • Identify and assess key risks and controls, design and perform effective test procedures, document and communicate audit findings and recommendations, and produce clear and concise audit reports.
  • Provide data analytics support to the Audit Team, using various tools and techniques to extract, transform, and visualize data from different sources, and generate risk and control insights.
  • Use programming languages such as Python and R to automate data analysis tasks, enhance audit efficiency and effectiveness, and develop new capabilities and solutions.
  • Make value-adding recommendations to management to address process and control weaknesses, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, principles, and established company policies and procedures.
  • Deliver ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the Audit Team to support the delivery of the core objectives of the function.
  • Undertake continuous learning including obtaining a relevant professional qualification (e.g. IT, data or internal audit related)

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in computing and IT, cyber security, data analytics, data science, machine learning or a related field is required
  • Relevant professional qualification e.g. CISA, CAP, aCAP, CompTIA Data +, IBM Data Science Professional Certificate, Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate, CISSP, CISM, CRISC, PIIA, MIIA, ACA, ACCA, IFoA etc.- desirable, but not essential

Skills and knowledge

  • Technical IT skills: Basic understanding of IT frameworks (e.g. COBIT, ITIL, ISO 27001, NIST) and IT transformation initiatives (e.g. cloud, agile, digitization, automation).
  • Technical data analytics skills: Knowledge and experience of data analytics tools and techniques (e.g. SQL, Python, Tableau, PowerBI, R) and statistical and analytical methods.
  • IT audit skills: Experience or exposure to IT audit methodologies, tools, and techniques (e.g. risk-based auditing, IT general and application controls, data analytics, IT security) and relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Communication skills: Ability to document and present audit findings and recommendations and data analysis results and recommendations clearly, concisely, and objectively, using evidence, data, visual aids, and data storytelling techniques, and to communicate effectively with different audiences.
  • Organizational skills: Ability to assist in audit planning, execution, reporting, and follow-up, and to manage time, resources, tasks, and deadlines efficiently and independently.
  • Teamwork skills: Ability to work collaboratively with the Audit Team, share knowledge and expertise, seek and provide feedback and input, and contribute to audit process and quality improvement, and to build and maintain positive and professional relationships with stakeholders.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills: Ability to create new ideas to apply data analytics to organizational data to generate new risk or control insights, challenge the control environment or enhance risk assessments, research and learn new tools, techniques, and topics related to IT auditing and data analytics, and solve problems and overcome challenges logically and innovatively.
