Job description

This opportunity is best suited for candidates in their penultimate/ final year of study.

In the Power & Renewables Engineering teams we work closely with a variety of other functions and teams throughout Wood Mackenzie to build the products and processes that are at the forefront of the energy transition.

We work on interesting, challenging, and important problems covering a variety of areas such as solar power, wind power, green hydrogen, carbon capture, real-time Power markets, and renewables policy. Every line of code you write is helping to change the way we power the planet.

About the role

This role will allow you the opportunity to explore our technology stack, whether your interests are more frontend leaning, whether you’re more of a backend data engineer, or whether ultimately you want to be a full-stack engineer. You’ll be paired with a Senior Engineer who’ll help guide you through their team’s technical problems while also being supported and collaborating with the wider team.

As an intern you’ll be able to collaborate with our Product team to understand the problems our customers face and help design solutions to solve them. Write maintainable, testable, and optimised code, as well as break work down into small iterations and work with the wider team to solve them.

Our Tech Stack

We use a wide variety of tools and technologies across our products. Here’s an idea of what you might encounter and be exposed to:

  • AWS, using Lambda, ECS and Kubernetes - to deploy our services
  • CDK and CloudFormation - for infrastructure configuration
  • TypeScript, React, Redux, Apollo and ReactiveX - To develop our web products
  • We have a shared component library implementing our design system
  • NodeJS and NestJS - to implement GraphQL and RESTful APIs
  • Python, Glue and Step Functions – to run our ETL data pipelines
  • DynamoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch and S3 - for data storage

About you

Requirements

  • Studying towards a Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification with a computing, engineering or data focus.

  • Applicants must have the legal Right to Work in the country this role is based in. We are unable to sponsor employment visas at this time.

Additional information

  • We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment, but this may be subject to change in the future
  • Due to the global nature of the team, a degree of flexible working will be required to accommodate different time zones
