Meet Jazz, Assistant Underwriter at QBE Insurance

Please can you introduce yourself and your role at QBE?

Hi, I’m Jazz Williams and I have been with QBE for 2 years. I have previously worked within the Natural Resources team as an Underwriting Assistant. Since December 2024, I have covered Paternity cover in the Europe London Market team, where I have taken on an Assistant Underwriter role, focusing on the governance and maintenance of the 15 binders within the team.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy most the variety of work in my daily tasks. As I now work within the European Markets, there is so much to learn about the different markets across Europe and the products they offer. I also really enjoy meeting the Coverholders and getting to grow strong working relationships with them.

What achievement would you say you’re most proud since working at QBE?

My continued personal development from the exams I have passed. Furthermore, how much I achieved in my career by 23, despite never attending university. I have been able to gain a wide range of work experience and opportunities.

What does a typical day look like for you?

No day is the same within my role, I can be dialling in to several different calls with coverholders, focusing on their performance throughout the different binder years or working on underwriting risks. I also have spent a lot of time creating a document which focuses heavily on the premium data provided to the team. This has been a challenge to understand how we can best display the data for the team to work closer with the coverholders in their chosen line of business.

What would be your advice to someone considering applying for an UA with us?

Absolutely apply for the role, it opens you up lots of opportunities and experiences to work with a variety of people with valuable experience within the Insurance Market. My other advice would be to network as much as possible and get to know as many people as possible outside your immediate team. It is always good to have a handful of people who you can reach out to for advice and help along the way.
