Compliance Administrator | Simone's Journey

By Valpak
Book open Reading time: 3 mins

Simone, a Compliance Administrator, from Valpak tells us about her role and shares her top tips for anyone looking to follow in her footsteps.

Tell us about your role

One of the most important parts of my role in admin is to process new member application forms. And ensuring that tier first experience with Valpak is as seamless as possible. Getting things wrong at this front end of a members experience can leave them with unhappy feeling of the joining process and so for me personally getting the Admin side of this is very important. We also deal with leavers, internal and external queries whilst keeping all the records and details on the system accurate and up to date. Another major big part of my role is chasing in documentation to ensure that they are compliant. At certain points in the year this can see me doing most of my work on the phone.

My daily role is quite varied, so I set up our suppliers for Procurement & Recycling Services as well as looking after the admin aspect of contracts.

What does a typical day look like in your role?

The variety of the jobs that I tackle means that I never get bored, so there isn’t really a typical day.

Most days I am chasing verification forms, processing new member apps and setting up suppliers or contracts onto the system, other days I can be processing leavers to ensure that finance are alerted as soon as possible to any changes in our members companies.

We also spend some time helping on the phones and with covering reception, which means setting up rooms, providing refreshments and making sure that lunches are served. Most days bring something different or a new problem to resolve.

What's the best thing about your role?

One of the best aspects of working within Comp Admin really is more related to working with Valpak in general. I get to work with a lot of young people who motivate me to think in different ways. I also love mentoring people, even if they are not aware that I am doing it.

I work with all departments across the Company so you quickly gain an understanding of how the different departments relate to the company as a whole. There is always something else to learn or a process to improve.

What's your favourite thing about your team?

Our small team work very hard and support each other to ensure that at busy periods the work does not get on top of people. Some of what I do is repetitive but I love to complete a task through to the end, as it gives me a great sense of achievement. Everyone in the team has a great sense of humour and we can have a laugh whilst getting the work done.

What piece of advice would you give to someone starting in this role?

I think the best advice for someone starting in Admin would be to stay organised – having multiple tasks on the go can get confusing if you don’t stay organised. I would also say ask many questions as humanly possible, everyone in the team knows their stuff if something doesn’t make sense or you want to know more about a particular area, department or the regulations just ask!
