Emma, an Environmental Compliance Advisor from Valpak tells us about her role and shares her top tips for anyone looking to follow in her footsteps.
Tell us about your role
Being an Environmental Compliance Advisor in the Contact Centre, means we are the main point of contact for our members, so when they call us up with questions, we’re the people on the other end of the phone ready to advise and give guidance. Our bread and butter here in the contact centre is advising on the UK Packaging, WEEE and Battery regulations, but we’re able to help with
a range of other related queries as well.
On a day-to-day basis, I use my knowledge of Valpak’s service offering to best direct incoming queries. I also have several accounts that I manage directly, keeping members informed of any updates to the regulations or within the industry.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
A day in my role usually starts with me responding to emails and making a list of tasks that need doing that day. This can range anywhere from helping a colleague with questions from their own account, to checking off a packaging application.
Other tasks that I deal with daily are chasing in outstanding data submissions, arranging compliance reviews, managing our battery box collection scheme, and compiling Civil Sanctions cases. No matter what time of year it is, I will always be on the phones answering incoming queries, and looking after my accounts
What's the best thing about your role?
The best thing about my role is being able to build a relationship with a member and make them feel more at ease when it comes to the regulations. I really enjoy having my select accounts which contact me for a host of questions, ideas and sometimes even just a chat!
What's your favourite thing about your team?
My favourite thing about my team is how supportive they all are. We’re able to band together when it’s busy, but also able to take a step back from the day-to-day and have a laugh. We work off the ideal that there is no such thing as stupid question which means the working environment is warm, friendly, and always encouraging.
What piece of advice would you give someone wanting to start in this role?
The regulations can be a bit of a learning curve at times, but everyone in the team has been in the exact same position as you. So,
don’t be nervous to ask questions.
