Bright Network on BBC2's Victoria Derbyshire programme

Book open Reading time: 2 mins

Following the release of our latest research report, we joined BBC2's Victoria Derbyshire programme to talk about the shocking careers advice our members have received (watch the video below).

Bright Network CEO & Founder, James Uffindell discussed this widespread problem with three of our members - Reesha, Kiran and Readha - who'd all been told they couldn't pursue their dream career because of their gender, ethnicity or socioeconomic background.

Here's just some of the terrible advice they'd been given by family, teachers and career services:

  • "Being a woman hinders your future prospects and you should be prepared to hit a ceiling as you will eventually be forced to pick from having a family or a successful career."
  • "You don't look like the type to do this role."
  • "A woman like you would probably get eaten alive in the banking industry, I'd suggest you set your sights on teaching."

Watch our discussion on BBC2's Victoria Derbyshire programme below.
