On Monday 24th October, we held our inaugural Bright Network High Growth Innovators. We paired our brightest members exploring their options in the world of entrepreneurship with seven high-growth businesses looking to meet their future superstars - and we're thrilled to say it was a huge success.
A huge thank you to all our partner firms - Premier Sponsor AlphaSights, BrewDog, Colt Technology Services, Deliveroo, First Names, Raremark and Savse Smoothies, as well as our brilliant members for making this an afternoon to remember.
This was a truly exceptional event - from the stunning venue, 28 floors up the Millbank Tower (check out the view below!), to the host of inspirational speakers sharing their path to success, as bumpy as it can sometimes be - including our very own CEO & Founder James Uffindell.
Premier Sponsor AlphaSights got the event underway with a powerful keynote speech from their CEO, Andrew Heath. Andrew shared his four top tips for growing a successful business - "Be confident, trust yourself, constantly look to acquire expertise and bring the skills you need into your business".
Attendees then heard from an expert panel - Will Leeming from AlphaSights; Adelle Desouza from Colt Technology Services, Henry Crawford from Deliveroo, and Jon Trigg, from First Names - talking about their experience of working in a fast-paced and innovative environment. Group CSR Manager at Colt Technology Services Adelle commented that integrity and humility are paramount in a high-growth business, with Will, AlphaSights Vice President adding that trust in your team and dedication to your cause make all the difference. "You must love what you do and be resilient when things don't go to plan" said Will.
First Names' Jon added that there's no one path to growing a business quickly - it can be an organic expansion if your product hits the market at the right time, or you could acquire an existing company. Our audience also put their burning questions to the panel - including asking them about their biggest failures. The one lesson to take away: learn from your mistakes and move on.
The AlphaSights skills session with Will and Mehdi was a highlight of the afternoon, in which they discussed the importance of managing your career for the long-term. Nurturing your professional network is key - they claimed 80% of jobs come through networking. And if you're thinking of applying to AlphaSights, they shared the three things they look for when hiring graduate talent: skill, will and cultural fit.
After an hour of structured networking with all seven sponsor firms and then more relaxed conversations over drinks (including plenty of Savse smoothies), the event came to a close. As they were heading out into the autumn evening, we were thrilled to hear our members say they'd never before been to an event like Bright Network High Growth Innovators.
So what was the main takeaway from the day? High-growth companies are an excellent place to launch an exciting and rewarding career. Want to come to one of our events? Browse our Events Page.
