The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The Atherstone laboratory is responsible for developing and commercialising abrasive products for our Automotive Aftermarket Division (AAD) and our Abrasives Systems Division (ASD). By creating innovative and cost-effective abrasive solutions for our customers, the successful candidate will help our teams deliver market leading and commercially successful new product introductions, whilst taking part in our Emerging Talent Training programme.

As a Product Development Technician Industrial Placement, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Leading sub-projects within global product development project teams
  • Innovative problem-solving working on a wide range of materials challenges
  • Developing abrasive products, coating formulations and test methods
  • Providing laboratory and product testing support for project teams

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

  • Studying for a Chemistry or Material Science degree
  • Self-motivated
  • Strong Communication skills

  • Salary – No less than £20,545

Training and Development

The successful candidate will initially undergo a period of intense training in their role. Taking responsibility for their own sub project areas, the successful candidate will have plenty of scope to develop new technical and interpersonal skills. We operate in a highly collaborative environment so Industrial Placements can rely on plenty of support from colleagues to help them get started and this will continue throughout their time at 3M.
