Abbott Toxicology have an exciting opportunity to join our Laboratory team for an approximately 12-month internship (starting middle of July 2022) at our site in Loughton, Essex.
What you'll do
Our Abbott Toxicology Loughton team provide toxicology services to a range of different customers including workplaces, maritime industry, law enforcement as well as occupational health providers. We also develop and enhance testing methods to ensure we continue to detect changing drug trends, for example the detection of novel psychoactive substances.
Our laboratory has several different departments and whilst on placement you will be integrated into one of the teams to experience all aspects of the laboratory. Day to day activities will depend on the area assigned, but will include aspects of preparing samples for testing, use of a variety of analytical techniques, method development activities, data analysis, problem solving, report writing. The role also involves regular interactions with other departments including Quality Assurance and Laboratory Process Engineering. Experimental work will involve handling urine samples. To fulfill job requirements full training, including data integrity, confidentiality and health and safety training in accordance with company policy will be provided.
Who you are
The ideal candidate will be a proactive, well organised individual studying for a degree in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, biomedical science or similar, with an interest in toxicology and analytical techniques.
This role would suit a person with good communication skills who enjoys working in a busy laboratory environment and has ‘hands on’ laboratory experience in analytical techniques such as chromatography, mass spectrometry or immunoassay.
