Role Outline/ Responsibilities:

We currently have an opportunity for a Graduate Safety Engineer to join one of our UK offices (London, Manchester, Glasgow or Aberdeen).

The Graduate/postgraduate Safety Engineer will contribute to ensuring that the Technical Safety (including Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE)) aspects of each project design within the remit of the business’ operations are maintained to the relevant acceptable standards and comply with applicable legislation.   In addition, execute and monitor Design HSE activities which typically will entail:

As a Graduate Safety Engineer your activities will typically entail: 

  • Planning and prioritising your own work to ensure that functional project requirements on scope, time and cost are met.
  • Assisting in coordinating Technical safety activities and deliverables across the various industry sectors.
  • Gathering and compiling process safety and environmental information  
  • Assistance in preparation and execution of: Hazard Studies (HAZID-ENVID/HAZOP/LOPA); HSE Checklist and Design Basis; Design HSE Review such as Human Factors, Hazardous Area Classification, Inherent Safety, Alarm Prioritisation.
  • To support Client requests for discrete Design HSE activities, e.g. consequence modelling and frequency assessments.

At the end of each project phase, ensure that all lists, files reports, etc. are filed correctly, ready for input to the next project phase.  Ensure that work complies with all necessary corporate, departmental and legislative requirements and procedures, to guarantee that the necessary consistency and quality of delivery is maintained

Essential:

  • Chemical Engineering Degree or equivalent (minimum 2:1).
  • Post graduate qualification (e.g. MSc) in Loss Prevention or Process Safety.
  • An ability to work in a project-based environment
  • Strong team working ethic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to produce well-presented and easy to understand reports
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong Mathematical and Computer software skills
  • A focus on results and project delivery
  • The drive and motivation to become a Chartered Engineer

Desirable:

  • Relevant work experience is a clear advantage particularly in working on or exposure to COMAH cases and/or offshore safety cases.
  • Familiarity with consequence modelling.
  • Ability to travel.  Projects are both UK based and International and therefore travel to Client offices and Sites will be undertaken to support the activity.  On occasion this may mean assignments in the UK or overseas.
  • Ability to acquire security clearance
