IT & Communications engineers work closely with the design team to ensure the projects we create together sustainably perform to the brief and budget. Increasingly we work with our other internal business lines such as Architecture, Environment, Transportation, and our own Project Managers to provide a one stop solution to our clients. Our IT & Communications portfolio builds from the foundations of the passive structured cabling, through the active IP network to the end user device for any IT solution. With IP technology utilised throughout our world in many different systems from security systems, building management systems, TV distribution, nurse call systems, process automation, etc we as IT & Communications engineers play a significant role in all projects across all sectors.

Job Responsibilities

When a graduate starts with us we pair them with an experienced engineer who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects. Training is arranged on our software engineering tools such as wireless coverage modelling to ensure all our engineers have a full set of design skills.

Early work with us will typically involve:

• Assisting in developing technical designs of systems including: Structured Cabling Systems; Active LAN and Telephony; Wireless Network Modelling
• Attending meetings and workshops with other design professionals such as architects
• Inspecting and monitoring installations, then formalising reports in written format
• As you develop you will be expected to take on more responsibility in managing projects from inception through to completion

As a small close knit team, all team members work on whatever projects are happening at any one time. As such, you will be expected to be a flexible individual, capable of working both within a team and individually. Integrating into this team from Day 1 is paramount to your success in the role, so a pragmatic approach to work is very important.

Examples of the type of projects the IT&C team are involved in include:

• Amazon Fulfilment and Sortation Centres Programme. The IT Infrastructure design and installation governance for an ongoing programme of projects across the UK and Europe. The design of the IT infrastructure requires detailed co-ordination and collaboration with a number of key stakeholders both within Amazon and their design partners to ensure the IT infrastructure is designed taking due cognisance of the equipment and operations within the building. The IT infrastructure supports the connectivity of critical operational systems such as wireless, CCTV, robotics and material handling systems.
• Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. IT lead designer duties on the £400m project to create a new state of the art facility for both organisations to bring together clinical care, research and education expertise in one flexible, fully integrated facility, while being focused on patients and attracting and retaining the best clinicians, scientists and educators. Our role requires IT design connectivity integration across multiple systems for IT, Clinical and building solutions to aid in the development of the smart digital building. Collaboration with multiple stakeholders and design team members is key to delivering to the clients desires and expectations.

Requirements 

• An accredited Bachelor degree (min 2:2 or equivalent) in Building / Architectural Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering with honours
• Affiliated with IET
• Maths and Sciences A-Levels (or equivalent) would be advantageous, at grade ‘B’ or above • AutoCAD and/or Revit would be advantageous
• Relevant Industry related work experience would be advantageous

You will be assigned a mentor to support & guide your development, and undertake regular training modules throughout the programme. There will be on-the-job technical development and classroom training where required, and the opportunity to work on live client projects, with significant multi-disciplinary exposure.
