What we do

Our UK based Strategic Consultancy team aims to transfer knowledge into policy and practice and delivers a wide range of research and development, technical and management consultancy projects. We undertake qualitative and quantitative research to inform the development of standards, processes, guidance and training.

Our client base includes infrastructure construction organisations and national asset owners such as Highways England, Transport Scotland, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Dubai Roads and Transport Authority. Our consultancy services include:

Network safety, sustainability & resilience

  • Analysis of road collision data to inform the development of safety strategies and initiatives
  • Construction materials resource efficiency and optimisation
  • Research to inform the impact of rolling resistance on air quality and CO2E emissions
  • Active and multi modal travel
  • Research to inform continual improvement in winter and other severe weather service operations

Highway asset management, maintenance and operations

  • Strategic advice on the operation and maintenance of road networks
  • Management of current live Operations and Maintenance contracts
  • Investment support PPP/PFI
  • Asset management plans/lifecycle plans and whole life costing
  • Efficiency, lean and value management consultancy

Road user compliance and human factors

  • Road trials of technology to monitor road user behaviour
  • Driving simulator research to evaluate road user comprehension

Evaluation of occupational standards for Network Rail Recent projects include 

  • Analysis and reporting of STATS 19 data and development of safety improvement initiatives (Highways England) 
  • Stakeholder engagement and research to inform government policy on registration and testing of towed vehicles (DfT)
  • Development of the asset maintenance and asset inspection requirements for the new DMRB (Highways England)
  • Asset management strategy (KSA and Dubai)
  • Reviewing and enhancing current inspection & maintenance practices utilising innovative technology / AI (Dubai)
  • Analysis of asset condition data to develop a prioritised forward programmes of maintenance (Telford & Wrekin Council)
  • Development of the operational requirements for severe weather (Highways England)
  • Driving simulator trials of revised sign design for roadworks, and alternative traffic management for All Lane Running (Highways England)

Job Responsibilities 

  • Source, review, collate and report information from a variety of sources
  • Take ownership for project tasks with direction from the Project Manager
  • Contribute enthusiastically and constructively to team, project and client meetings
  • Actively promote and introduce new and better ways of working to stimulate innovation
  • Develop novel bespoke solutions on a project-by-project basis
  • Use computer software to analyse data and present findings

Requirements

  • BEng Civil Engineering, BSc Geography or BSc Transport Planning with a 2:2 classification (or equivalent) or above
  • Masters or doctorate in a related field would be an advantage
  • Relevant work experience would be an advantage
  • Willing and able to work towards chartership with the relevant professional institution
  • Good Microsoft Office skills essential such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint & Power BI
  • Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally and in writing with the confidence to engage with a variety of people (clients, colleagues, stakeholders and subcontractors alike) and the aptitude to rationally explain, explore and discuss technical issues and capture feedback
  • Enthusiastic, hard-working, with ambition, tenacity and drive
  • Ability to structure & prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team
  • Ability to work in a team and independently without losing initiative & focus
