About us

An opportunity has arisen to join the Future Projects team on a 12 month work placement, to be involved in designing and analysing the next generation of aircraft. This role is aimed at an engineering undergraduate looking for an interesting and challenging internship, to develop their skills and knowledge for a future career in aerospace. The Future Projects Office is responsible for the preliminary design of all new or upgraded Airbus aircraft; everything from maintaining the competitiveness of our current product line right through to finding sustainable solutions to the energy, environmental and capacity challenges of the future.

We in the Future Projects Office achieve our goals through exploring and challenging the design space. We integrate technical and business drivers whilst working daily with teams based in France, Germany and Spain.

We are an inclusive team and value and encourage different ways of thinking and working to get the best technical solution. Our team members are trusted and empowered to solve the challenges the business sets us.

What you will be doing

For this placement, you would be working within either the Wing & Landing Gear Team or the Overall Aircraft Design Team.

You will work on the early design stages of projects and cover a number of disciplines including geometry, aerodynamics, performance, sizing, weight, operability and cost in order to deliver an optimised solution for either wing or complete aircraft problems.

To achieve this you will need to work with the rest of the Future Projects team and possibly other engineering teams within the business so communication skills will be key.  This is an excellent opportunity to see and gain experience of the preliminary phase of design of aircraft.

You will also have the chance to take part in initiatives outside your day to day tasks that will provide opportunities for personal development.

During this placement, some top level activities you may undertake will also include;

  • Work within the transnational Future Projects Office, a small team of highly skilled and motivated engineers
  • Contribute to the preliminary design phase of future Airbus aircraft, targeting sustainable aviation
  • Get the opportunity to apply university learning in a real-world environment
  • Work at an overall aircraft level, as well as more detailed wing design
  • Help develop new methods and tools as part of the overall design process
  • Opportunities for personal development projects

..so in summary, "help shape the future of aviation, and Airbus' role in it"
