About us

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Engineering team responsible for the payload overall specification and performance on Airbus Telecommunications Satellites. From the contract start through to successful payload delivery the team are responsible for Radio Frequency (RF) performance, electrical and mechanical compatibility with the satellite. With a 15 year life 36,000km from Earth, we have to demonstrate to our customers every aspect of the design and performance will meet their needs before launch.

Telecommunication payloads are highly complex providing critical services globally to many end users. As part of the Airbus team focused on the equipment you have an opportunity to learn and contribute to payloads that are currently in production in Portsmouth. We are a team that works closely with all areas of the business from the end customer, specialist engineers and project teams. Whether you work on our latest flexible payload ‘ONESAT’ or a very large geostationary payload you will be part of a dedicated community of Engineers and support staff.

What will you be doing?

You will support the day to day business of payload engineering providing an opportunity to learn about all the different types of telecommunications payloads, the key performance parameters, RF analysis, test results and gaining an appreciation of the overall payload design. The tasks will be varied and require you to use different skills (technical, data management, communication etc.) in order to complete them successfully.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • Interest in finding creative solutions to complex problems
  • Able to make decisions based on evidence
  • The desire to work in an open and trusting environment
  • Studying for a relevant engineering or technical degree
  • Experience in software packages like MATLAB, Python, ADS, STK.
