Position

The purpose of the role is to experience Project/Programme Management on a selection of Military & Aerospace projects.  The duration of the role is up to 12 months.

Description

Our Project and Programme Managers are responsible for the delivery of Projects and Programmes inline with the business goals and objectives.

As a Project Manager at Abaco, you will be assigned to work with existing Project and Programme Managers on a range of products across the Abaco portfolio where you will work on real world products and customer issues.  We understand that you won’t have all the skills we require when you arrive, which is why the Project and Programme Management team, team leaders and engineers help coach and support you throughout the placement so that you can develop and achieve during your time with us.

We follow the APM methodology of Project Management to deliver projects and programmes on time, to budget and to the required quality. A number of tools are utilised to assist for which you will also gain real world exposure and potentially assist in improving. In the Project and Programme Management team, our work involves external and internal Customers. External Customers are typically Tier 1 suppliers such as BAE Systems, Raytheon, MBDA, General Dynamics who manufacture cutting edge hardware for the mliltary and aerospace sectors. Internal Customers comprise the development of new products to support Abaco’s long term strategy and technology roadmaps which are aligned with our external Customers future developments so that we can deliver new tech where it is needed, when it is needed and at the correct price point.

During the placement as part of their daily work, our interns will interact with groups outside of Project and Programme management, such as Product Managers, other engineering disciplines, supply chain and our production facility in order to support business activities and provide an exceptional product for our customers.

The twelve month internship will allow you to discover what we do and how we do it, and for us to learn from and about you.  Our previous interns are our first port of call when looking for new graduates and our graduate scheme recognises the knowledge and experience that our returning interns bring back to the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within the Project and Programme Management team to develop and support a variety of internal and external projects and programmes
  • Gain knowledge of project tools and processes, for example, MS Project, JIRA, SAP and Agile development methodologies
  • Produce clear, timely and concise reports to senior stakeholders on project/programme performance
  • Get involved in all parts of the project management lifecycle from bidding to close out
  • Assist in developing and promoting best practice project and programme management techniques and methodologies
  • Ensure business activity is conducted in line with company values, policies & ethics code of conduct
  • Proactively promote and support the company’s compliance with Health and Safety legislation.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Studying a Degree in Project/Programme Management or Planning disciplines
  • Knowledge of the APM/PMI/Prince2 theory and techniques
  • Desire to develop project manamgenet skills in a real life business environment
  • Good problem-solving and creative, solution-building skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding and Interest in applying project/programme management skills to military and aerospace products
  • An understanding of project/programme management tools.

This is a 12-month Internship and you will need the ability to start at the end of July/beginning of August depending on the intake date.
