As part of our Examination team based in Glasgow, you’ll have the unique opportunity to be part of the team that examines the condition of railway civil engineering assets across Scotland to ensure their safety in continuing in use.

The Civils Examinations Framework Agreement (CEFA) team provide insight to enable Network Rail to continue the safe, efficient and optimal management of the capability of its earth structures assets. By gathering intelligence around the condition of them and how they are developing and changing, this will form the basis of decision making for future intervention and safety of the structure to prevent functional failure. These assets are part of the heritage of our country, and we need to ensure that they are safe to meet today’s needs as well as tomorrow’s.

Your involvement matters. Keeping our railway running on time, maximising track access capacity, whilst ensuring the safety of our trains and travelling public makes a genuine difference to people’s lives, often in the very community where you live.

The railway sector has always been one of our core sectors and because of our success in building and maintaining the railway, we’re an industry leader in Rail services, passionate about using our skills to make a difference and continuing to win further exciting projects for you to get involved with.

We therefore keep our list of essential requirements to a minimum, but there are a few things needed to qualify for our programme:

  • Minimum 2:2 BEng in either Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Geology
  • Available to join the programme in September 2022
