APEM Group is looking for an Ornithology Consultant to join our expert team.
The role
As an Ornithology Consultant, you will be involved in conducting field and desk-based studies, analysing bird data, and providing expert advice to clients in both the private and public sectors. Your work will contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA), and other critical projects. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career in ornithology while working on impactful projects across the UK, Ireland, and beyond.
You will collect, collate, and analyse ornithological data, support statistical modelling and GIS mapping, and prepare high-quality reports and costed proposals. You will also assist in tendering processes, engaging with clients, and ensuring that project tasks are delivered on time and within budget. You will have the chance to collaborate with leading professionals across a range of specialisms, including ecology, fisheries science, and marine mammal research.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need a degree in a relevant subject such as ecology, biology, or environmental sciences, along with one to two years of relevant work experience. A strong knowledge of UK and Irish bird species, their identification, and behavioural characteristics is essential, as are excellent data handling, reporting, and communication skills. Attention to detail and proficiency in Excel is required, and experience with GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS, knowledge of statistical modelling and R, and a full UK driving licence would be advantageous.
