Arriva Rail London are delighted to offer an industrial placement opportunity for a Trainee Planning and Diagramming Specialist located within the Train Planning Team based at Swiss Cottage, London. The successful applicant will join a small team of people planning the train service on the London Overground network.

The successful candidate will be expected to become an integral part of a highly performing team delivering to Transport for London and its customers.

Full training and support is offered in a structured way throughout the placement. Opportunities to experience other teams and departments throughout the business is also offered.

Applicants will need to be strong analysts who are able to communicate effectively with a dynamic team. This opportunity is available to those who can demonstrate that they are enthusiastic about planning within a transport environment, keen to learn new skills and motivated to grow their own network and to meet others.

Responsibilities

  • You’ll be working in a dynamic team of 14 people. You’ll be keen to learn about train planning and be able to work in a busy and pressured environment.
  • You’ll be working with the Senior Traincrew Diagramming Specialist, producing altered driver diagrams to a weekly schedule
  • You will learn how to prepare train plans, rolling stock and traincrew diagrams that are robust and deliver a train service that will meet the concession performance targets and issue these in a timely manner
  • You will produce information about timetable changes to inform our customers about alternative travel arrangements when there is engineering work on the line
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing improvements to planning and diagramming processes and systems

Qualifications

Applicants will need to be a registered University student on an under-graduate sandwich degree programme and have good computer literacy. It is desirable but not essential.
