Launch your career with Arup

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of today's built environment. Together we help our clients solve their most complex challenges – turning exciting ideas into tangible reality as we strive to find a better way and shape a better world.

Overview of the Role

Are you interested in a career in Digital Water?

We're currently looking for a Summer Placement to join our existing Digital Water team for 6-8 weeks starting in June or July 2022.

You will have the drive to excel as a digital engineer, analyst or consultant and enjoy the challenges and the satisfaction that accompany success. The role will be to assist the Arup Digital Water team, working closely with our existing team of engineers, analysts, data scientists, user interface/interaction designers, web developers, and product managers. You will be hands on from day one and help deliver an expanding workload and will offer complementary and new skills to growing the area of Digital Water in Arup's London Digital Team.

We offer the opportunity to experience a fast-paced and diverse working environment. Arup searches for the highest calibre people and supports and encourages the enhancement of your skills as part of making this a valuable and enjoyable summer placement for you.

What might you do?

What does ‘digital' mean in practice? Here are a few examples of what you might get up to:

  • Scripting and data analysis – you might be helping to build a model to predict flooding or applying machine learning techniques to analyse satellite imagery.
  • Presenting data and visualisations to tell a story about project outcomes.
  • User research with internal or external clients using online workshop tools – Miro.
  • Supporting the team to write collateral for bids.

Who we're looking for

You will be highly motivated by the potential to apply digital technologies to solve the most pressing environmental challenges.

You should be an innovative problem solver, someone who thinks ‘outside the box' and who is able to communicate ideas and solutions. You should have a positive and forward-thinking approach and enjoy working as part of a friendly and supportive team. Workload will be diverse and the ability to multi-task and manage your workload is important.

An enquiring mind is key to our approach, as we work across numerous diverse topic areas. You will be able to assimilate new information rapidly, and to create innovative solutions for colleagues, clients and collaborators.

We are particularly keen to meet people with an interest in the application of new technology and data driven approaches to solve environmental problems.

We appreciate there are many different routes through life and we are looking at a vast range of degrees including analytical degrees such as engineering, maths, computer science, econometrics, physics and earth science.

We are also looking at degrees which are product, environmental and digital based. To be eligible for the role you must be on track to achieve a 2:1 or higher (or equivalent).

Arup Summer Internship opportunities typically run for 6-8 weeks. You must be available to start on the opportunity during Summer 2022 and commit to completing the programme in full.
