Overview of Role

We are offering summer placement positions for students to join our team of bright professional across several of our UK offices for 2022.

You will experience what we do as fire engineers. You will help us deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. From the outset of your placement, you will have responsibility to complete tasks on live projects and engage in research , and we will be there to provide you with the necessary support and training you may need. We will aim to make your journey with us smooth and enjoyable while you broaden your exposure to fire engineering.

As part of your placement, you will have opportunities to assist colleagues in preparing fire strategies, undertaking numerical analysis, reviewing architectural plans against relevant fire safety design guidance and co-ordinating the fire safety design with the relevant design teams in Arup.

Qualifications 

  • Either currently undertaking a Master's or Bachelor's or graduated in 2021 with a prediction of or having already achieved a 2:1 or higher (or equivalent) degree in a relevant subject necessary to obtain engineering chartership, such as: Fire Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Construction Management, Building Surveying, Applied Mathematics or other relevant degrees.   
  • Good A Levels (or equivalent qualifications) in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Sciences (Grade C or higher) are a distinctive advantage.  

Skills 

  • Excellent written English, and able to provide evidence/example of own work, if requested  
  • Strong numerical skills  
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel  

Desirable skills 

  • Experience with Autodesk software such as Revit, Navisworks or AutoCAD  
  • Experience reviewing drawings of buildings in 2D and 3D  
  • Experience using sketching tools such as SketchUp  
  • Experience with VBA or other programming languages

Arup Summer Internship opportunities typically run for 6-8 weeks. You must be available to start on the opportunity during Summer 2022 and commit to completing the programme in full.
