Overview of role
Our Mechanical Engineers apply their specialist skills to deliver design and consulting services for the vital infrastructure that makes modern life possible. Our work, for clients that range from government agencies to private companies, includes:
- Water - water and waste water treatment, bio-resources, pumping stations, reservoirs, water distribution, water control structures and active flood defences
- Energy – hydro power, CHP, waste-to-energy, wind, steam generation and energy storage
- Process – industrial manufacturing and process plants
We design new infrastructure, improve existing asset performance and are actively pursuing more sustainable infrastructure for the societies we live and work within.
We are looking for Graduate Mechanical Engineers to join our team and contribute to our ambitions to deliver great infrastructure. You'll work within teams of engineers and specialists to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients.
Each person in our team is given responsibility from day one and provides a valuable contribution to our projects. As you develop and discover more of your own abilities and interests we will work with you to increase your role and expand your capabilities. We encourage our staff to work towards a professional qualification with the IMechE, but the development doesn't stop there. Throughout your time at Arup you maintain control and drive of your own career, with support and encouragement from a diverse team.
Typical responsibilities for this role could include:
- Designs and calculations
- Technical reports
- BIM models
- Control philosophies
- Mechanical equipment specification and selection
- Site visits and assessments
- Project meetings, design reviews and HAZOPs
- Client and/or contractor liaison
In our multi-disciplinary teams, you will work alongside experts many fields such as: Electrical, Chemical, Civil and Structural Engineers, Environmental Consultants, Project Managers, Geotechnical Engineers and Planners.
What we are looking for
- Ideally a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, although a BEng will also be considered
- Studying, or have studied, an IMechE accredited course
- Working knowledge of Office and an ability to learn new software such as 3D design and digital automation
- As you will be helping solve challenges for our clients you will need an analytical thought process and the ability to work with others to develop ideas into designs.
- No two projects are ever the same so enthusiasm for a varied career in mechanical engineering and an appreciation of the value of infrastructure are important.
- Your work will include interacting with a huge diversity of people within Arup and beyond, so an ability to communicate ideas and value the contributions of others will be essential.
- We never really finish learning therefore you will need a desire to continue developing and growing and the initiative to use what you know to help the industry meet future challenges.
You must be available to start this opportunity in September 2022.
