Overview of Role

Our Mechanical Engineers apply their specialist skills to infrastructure projects across the globe. We offer our clients a broad spectrum of expertise, design and consulting services in, but not limited to the following industries:

• Water - water and waste water treatment, bio-resources, pumping stations, reservoirs, water distribution, water control structures and active flood defences  
• Energy - hydro, CHP, waste-to-energy, wind, steam generation, energy storage  
• Process – industrial manufacturing and process plants   

Our clients include water companies, energy generators, energy infrastructure owners, rail infrastructure owners, manufacturers, Government agencies and councils, process industries and investment companies.

You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

Typical responsibilities could include:

• Design calculations  
• BIM model input  
• Technical report writing  
• Mechanical equipment specification and selection  

Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in the following fields: Electrical Engineers, Process Scientists, Civil and Structural Engineers, Environmental Consultants, Project Managers, Geotechnical Engineers and Planners.

What are we looking for?  

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:

• Studying an MEng in Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Science  
• Demonstrate enthusiasm for a career in Mechanical Engineering  
• Interest in and application of digital skills, such as computer coding for design automation and problem-solving is an advantage.  

To be eligible, you must be studying a degree course that allows you to complete an industrial placement programme.

Arup Industrial placement opportunities typically run for 11-12 months. You must be available to start on the opportunity during Summer 2022 and commit to completing the programme in full.

At the end of your placement, you will have the opportunity to be considered for a graduate opportunity at Arup.
