Internship Description

AstraZeneca is looking for a summer intern in the Systems Medicine group within the Clinical Pharmacology and Quantitative Pharmacology Division. The summer intern will work with AstraZeneca scientists on a highly impactful project.

The project includes implementing mathematical models and bench-marking algorithms/tools utilized for Systems Medicine development efforts. The intern will get an opportunity to work with existing in-house quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) models & become familiar with AstraZeneca's workflow for (QSP) model development and its contribution to drug development. The research project will primarily be executed in MATLAB and associated toolboxes (e.g. SimBiology).

The intern is responsible for advancing all aspects of model development, including literature data collection, model calibration and validation, and applications to address specific research questions.

The summer intern is expected to give a formal presentation at the end of the program.

Skills you will gain

  • Opportunity for you to pursue your interests and become proficient in a technique/skill that can influence/improve drug development.
  • Work in a highly interdisciplinary team combining engineering (biomedical, chemical, electrical, and mechanical), applied math, pharmaceutical sciences and systems biology.
  • Improve interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Gain hands-on experience with model development of biological processes in drug development.
  • Improve your experience with Matlab or similar software.
  • Be exposed to different mathematical models and computational tools currently used in Systems Medicine.

Additional Information

  • Duration of the internship is for 3 months, and the timing of the start date and end date can be flexible.
  • Please note Right to Work in the UK is required for the duration of the internship.
  • Closing date: Sunday 22nd May 2022.
