Support the key performance indicators in relation to spirit quality by ensuring prompt release of spirit and driving reduction in consumer complaints. Coordinate the Sensory Panel, monitoring results and supporting training. Maintain the laboratory facility, all samples submitted to the laboratory and all data relating to the samples.

About you

Tertiary education in Science with Lab / Spirits Industry / Organoleptic Analysis Experience also desirable.

Responsibilities

With our Consumer at the heart, your key focus will be to:

  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot specialist instrumentation such as density meter, spectrophotometer, GC, and any other such instrumentation, having first undertaken specific training. 
  • Sensory Analysis – prepare samples for Sensory Panel, maintain reference samples, reporting any anomalous results. Monitoring panelist performance and support training. 
  • Prepare and analyze samples from raw materials, distillations and trials, including inspection of Botanicals. 
  • Prioritize samples according to the needs of the business, using LIMS to record samples and their results 
  • Apply 5S principles to the laboratory environment, ensuring good housekeeping and maintaining stocks of consumables and store all incoming samples appropriately in accordance with HMR&C guidelines. 
  • Participate in the review and continuous improvement of lab techniques and operating procedures, suggest and implement improvements and benchmark against other laboratories. 
  • Any other tasks key to the smooth operation and development of the laboratory

Skills and experience

The Skills & Experience needed to create your legacy

  • Tertiary education in Science (essential) 
  • Quality Lab / Spirits Industry Experience (preferable)
  • Relevant IT systems experience e.g. Microsoft Office, LIMS, Chemstation, SAP
  • Organoleptic Analysis experience
  • Excellent attention to detail
