An Accountancy graduate at Baillie Gifford is more than just a number to us

Based in the heart of Edinburgh, Baillie Gifford provides investment management services for a wide range of clients globally. We have over 1,400 employees and in excess of £352 bn* funds under management. And whilst we’ve been around for more than a century, we’re a firm that’s always looking forward.

In fact, in order to generate the long-term growth of our investments and our business, we’re constantly trying to predict what the future may hold – anticipating the consequences of local, regional and global events, and questioning everything around us. That’s why we need people who are not afraid to ask questions. People who are more than just a number.

A broad range of experience

We don’t expect you to know what area of the business you’re best suited to from the outset. That’s why our three-year Accountancy Graduate Training Programme rotates through five different departments in the firm, including placements in Finance, Client Administration, Fund Operations and Investment Trusts – giving you the chance to find the right fit for your skills and interests.

From the start, you’ll be given a clearly defined role with real responsibilities and deliverables. You’ll work as a valued member of each team, learning how our business works and how your accountancy skills can be applied in different ways. Throughout the programme, you’ll receive dedicated support and mentoring, so we can tailor the placements to your specific career goals. Your typical activities could include working on management and statutory accounts, completing VAT returns and dealing with client queries and invoicing.

There’s time to study for your CA qualification too. Although we work hard, we don’t believe in long hours. And to give you as much support as possible, we provide generous study leave and a dedicated Training Principal to offer guidance throughout the programme. Once qualified, you’ll be guaranteed a permanent role with us, as well as ongoing training opportunities and the chance to experience a variety of roles within the firm.

What you’ll need to succeed

We don’t mind what you studied at university, as we like to work with people who are curious and passionate about a range of topics. Our minimum requirement is a 2.1 degree in any subject and a Higher/A-level or equivalent in maths.

We’re also looking for people with a proactive approach who like to solve problems. From the moment you start at Baillie Gifford, you’ll be expected to add value and bring new ideas to the table, so you must be comfortable with responsibility and happy to take ownership of your own projects.

Along with a competitive starting salary, we offer an excellent benefits package including a £3,000 sign-on bonus, 15% employer contributory pension, discretionary annual bonus and 34 days’ holiday.
