About us

Cutting edge technology at the heart of our business.

Baillie Gifford was established as an investment management partnership over 100 years ago.  Today, we are an independent global investment management business with over £200 billion under management and a team of over 1,200 people based in Edinburgh.

In this fast-moving and ever-changing business landscape, cutting-edge information systems underpin everything we do. So as you’d expect, we’re constantly investing in the development of our technical infrastructure. Just as important though, we invest a lot in the development of our people: the 300-strong team of technology professionals in Edinburgh who bring that technology to life.

The role

Experience the entire project lifecycle.

At Baillie Gifford, Application Development is about using the latest technology to create new and cutting-edge business solutions. On our two-year graduate programme, you’ll work with business users to define and create systems with technologies including HTML5, JavaScript, Angular, ASP.NET Core, Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, and C#.

After a comprehensive three-month induction, you’ll experience a variety of placements and be involved in real projects throughout their complete lifecycle. There’s ongoing support so that you can be involved in every stage of the process from gathering requirements and full-stack development through to testing and deployment. You’ll also be joining our journey towards an entire DevOps culture and practice, as we achieve more frequent releases and faster feedback times. Our development teams are provided with best-in-class tools, such as Visual Studio, Azure DevOps and GIT version control. With deployment and hosting being managed through Docker and Kubernetes.

Although this role is at the forefront of technology innovation, it’s not tech for tech’s sake. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across the organisation and gain a full understanding of what they need from their technology. Then it’s over to your team to create imaginative solutions that deliver results for the business.

What you'll need to succeed

Step forward.

We’re looking for a strong aptitude for IT, as well as a focus on developing your technical and personal skills. At Baillie Gifford, your career development is very much in your own hands.  So you’ll take ownership of it and drive it forward yourself. In return, we’ll give you all the training and support you need to achieve your goals.

You don’t need to have studied an IT-related degree, but you will need an interest in software development and knowledge of a programming language. Just as important though, you must bring strong communication skills, real commercial awareness and the ability to explain to us how you believe technology can make business better.

Salary

A competitive salary + benefits package including £3,000 sign-on bonus, 15% employer contributory pension, discretionary annual bonus and 34 days’ holiday.
