Cutting edge technology at the heart of our business.

This is your opportunity to join Baillie Gifford, a leading independent global investment management partnership based in Edinburgh. With in excess of £352 billion* under management, we have over 1,400 employees and more than 700 clients across the globe.

Cutting-edge information systems underpin everything we do, which is why we develop most of our software in-house, operate a continuous development cycle and invest heavily in new technologies as well as the 300-strong team of professionals who bring that technology to life.

The Role

This ten-week placement from June to August in summer 2022 is your opportunity to work across the whole software development lifecycle. You’ll be joining an Application Development team that creates software solutions to make our business work better and smarter into the future. We work with advanced technologies like HTML5, JavaScript, ASP.NET Core, Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, and C#.

Following a week’s induction, you and your fellow interns will work together on a real business project as you take responsibility for the full lifecycle - from the initial brief to project planning, programming, testing and delivery. At every stage, you’ll meet with our experienced technical and business leaders who will support you throughout the process.

Running alongside your project, you will have a range of development opportunities with other teams in the department. So as you spend time with experts, you will be able to apply what you learn directly to your project.

You will Need

Now in your penultimate year of study for a software development related degree, you’re fascinated by emerging technology and keen to explore its potential. So when you apply, we want you to tell us about any websites or apps you’ve built, blogs you’ve written or technical forums you’ve contributed to. Show us your problem solving approach to technical challenges too. We’re looking for well-rounded individuals who have a positive approach  - and as your project will be a web-based application, you will need to know your way around web technologies
