Are you keen to learn about what we do and get some practical experience? We offer paid internships to university students in their first and penultimate year and to those about to start their postgraduate study. You’ll join a supportive and inclusive work environment with lots of opportunities to develop your skills. 

First year internship

Length: Six weeks over the summer
Salary: £82.69 per day

Entry requirements

  • In your first year on any undergraduate degree
  • Expecting a 2.1 degree classification
  • 120 UCAS points from 3 A-Levels (or equivalent) 

What you'll learn?

You’ll learn more about our role in the economy and gain ‘on-the-job’ skills. We’ll assign you to a team and you’ll work on a specific project. Our teams include information technology, monetary policy and banking supervision. 

You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more by attending talks and networking events.

The type of work you would do could involve:

  • supporting the UK’s financial system 
  • working in the financial markets
  • supervising international banks

If your performance is outstanding, we may consider you for a place on our Penultimate Year Internship or Industrial Placement program.

Penultimate year internship

Length: Eight weeks over the summer
Salary: £83.65 per day

Entry requirements

  • In your penultimate year of your first  degree
  • Any degree subject  
  • Expecting a 2.1 degree classification
  • 120 UCAS points from 3 A-Levels (or equivalent) 

What will you learn?

You will learn about our role in the UK’s economy and gain valuable ‘on-the-job’ skills.  You’ll join one of our teams and support analysts, economists or supervisors. 

We would assign you to one of the following teams: 

  • Banking Payments & Innovation
  • Data & Statistics Division
  • Financial Market Infrastructure
  • Financial Stability Strategy & Risk
  • Insurance
  • Markets
  • Resolution
  • UK Deposit Takers Supervision

You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more by attending talks and networking events. When you apply, we’ll ask you about your areas of interest. If your performance is outstanding, we’ll consider you for a place on our Graduate Programme or Postgraduate Internship.

Postgraduate internship

Length: Eight weeks over the summer
Salary: £88.46 per day

Entry requirements

  • Completed an undergraduate degree and about to start a postgraduate degree in economics or finance
  • expecting a 2.1 degree classification
  • 120 UCAS points from 3 A-Levels (or equivalent) 

What will you learn?

You’ll focus on a project, working closely with economists or analysts to collect and analyse data. We’ll introduce you to what the Bank of England does and you’ll be able to attend talks and networking events.

You could be working in one of the following areas: 

  • Data & Statistics 
  • Financial Stability Strategy & Risk
  • International
  • Markets
  • Monetary Analysis
