Why the UK Corporate Banking Summer Intern programme?

The Barclays UK Corporate bank oversees senior corporate coverage within the bank's home market. This unit strategically collaborates with major corporate clients in the UK to address their banking requirements. What distinguishes us is our industry-specialised approach, ensuring all our staff are experts within our chosen markets. With regional offices providing nationwide coverage, we can effectively assist and engage with all UK corporations, utilising a localised relationship model.

As a summer analyst, you will gain foundational banking knowledge, teaching you about a bank's role in the UK economy. You will help aid strategic clients with diverse needs, from everyday banking to intricate mergers, acquisitions, and broader areas like Environmental, Social and Governance planning. As an intern, you'll start to learn vital relationship and technical skills for a banking career, and engage with various banking divisions, mastering the skills required for exceptional Corporate banking.

UK Corporate Banking

UK Corporate Bank supports large and medium Corporate clients within the UK, compromising of specialist businesses each of which are market leaders in the UK market; Large Corporate, Medium Corporate, Public Sector and Real Estate. Supporting the entire range of clients’ needs from day to day banking through to complex corporate financing arrangements. As a UK Corporate banking colleague, you will be responsible for supporting your clients gain access to all of Barclays group solutions including Barclaycard and Personal Banking.

Who we're looking for

To be considered for this programme, you must be in your penultimate year of your degree, in any discipline.

Ideally, you'll have a keen interest in finance and business. We value resourcefulness, teamwork, enthusiasm and an entrepreneurial spirit, all of which might be showcased through your involvement in extracurricular activities.

Working in Birmingham

Barclays Snowhill is at the heart of the professional district and commands a workforce of around 1000. With great transport links to Birmingham Grand Central and Snowhill train stations as well as the local metro. Our office has a dedicated staff coffee shop and deli and break out areas for staff. There is also a presentation theatre for client and staff events. Our office boasts a great working environment as well as opportunities to network across the city.

Purpose of the role

To participate in the day-to-day activities of the UK corporate banking division providing insights and expertise that help senior colleagues make informed decisions, develop new products and services, and identify new market opportunities.

Accountabilities

  • Execution of small research projects, research to support strategic decision making, preparation of presentations and reports to communicate research findings, collaboration with senior management to implement research findings for UK corporate banking.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.
  • Participation in training and development programmes to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Identification of opportunities, development of business cases, management of the deployment and launch of new products and services for UK corporate banking.
