To undertake a course of study and work experience over 2 years that prepares the graduate for a sustainability role within the Group Finance function at Barratt Developments PLC.

Our graduate will rotate through a number of Group functions and within our housebuilding divisions to gain an appreciation of how both our local operations and supporting departments operate, with a particular focus on the Group Finance Sustainability Reporting team. They will also benefit from opportunities to undertake a Million Makers project, the option to study for professional qualifications, and will undertake a series of development modules including leadership, communication, project management, presentations and performance management. 

Throughout the programme, our graduate will have a tailored development plan with clear milestones, feedback and formal mentoring from the Group Finance Sustainability Reporting Manager. They will also benefit from a support network of fellow graduates.

In both years of the programme, our graduate will spend time with the Group Finance Sustainability Reporting team, enabling them to get involved in longer-term projects and gain an in-depth knowledge of collection, analysis and reporting of the Group’s greenhouse gas emissions and wider ESG data; and climate change risk analysis, modelling and reporting, providing an exciting opportunity at the forefront of a developing discipline in a FTSE-100 business.

Successful graduates will also get the opportunity to liaise and partner with a variety of Group Functions to improve understanding of drivers behind sustainability data trends and calculate the potential impact of our proposed sustainability initiatives to ensure we are meeting organisational commitments such as our 2040 net zero target. 

What will I be responsible for?

  • Collecting and analysing data from across the Group to ensure we are meeting organisational sustainability commitments. 
  • Business partnering and networking with other Group Functions and our operational divisions to understand of drivers behind sustainability data trends 
  • Reporting sustainability performance across the Group and to senior management.
  • Assisting with the assessment and monitoring of climate-related risks and modelling of its future impact. 
  • Contributing towards Group Finance objectives by driving volunteering activities in the local area 
  • Contributing to continuous development within Barratt by undertaking Divisional/Regional/Group projects as agreed with your mentor
  • Following the ‘ASPIRE’ Graduate Development Programme, completing the portfolio evidence as required
  • Attending all Group Development modules and Quarterly Meetings as per the Programme
  • Continuing to develop through reviews with your mentor, undertaking relevant professional qualifications where appropriate
  • Giving continuous and constructive feedback on the ‘ASPIRE’ programme
  • Acting as a ‘buddy’ to new graduates when applicable 

What you'll need?

To be successful in this role, we are looking for a person who:

  • Holds a 2:2 degree, equivalent or higher qualification; ideally in a numerically-focused subject such as Mathematics, Economics or a science (including Computer Science). If you do not have a related degree, you can still apply.  In either case, you will need to demonstrate enthusiasm for the industry, Barratt as a company and the role. You should also be able to outline the transferrable skills you bring to the graduate programme
  • Is able to demonstrate an interest in one or more of the following areas: Data collection and analysis, sustainability reporting, risk analysis and modelling
  • Is able to demonstrate and produce a high standard of written work and accurate numerical work
  • Is self-confident, articulate, resilient and able to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Someone who is A lateral and innovative thinker; sees change as an opportunity and challenge for the business
  • Is able to work on their own initiative, with the drive to take ownership of tasks and projects
  • Has Strong communication skills, the ability to build effective and mutually beneficial working relationships both internally and externally
  • Is able to rapidly absorb new and complex information with ease and speed to conduct an incisive analysis
  • Is passionate about the customer and is a role model of this behaviour to others in the business
  • Displays energy and enthusiasm to deliver goals and achievements
  • Is driven, self-motivated and results driven for self and business
  • A driving licence and your own transport is preferable but not essential
