BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three and four cylinder petrol engines, and precision machining key engine components, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week, with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles.

IT Innovation Developer Graduate Programme

We are looking for a talented, motivated and confident individual to drive real innovation in our engine manufacturing plant for 2years commencing September 2022. We need someone willing to build rapid applications that can vary from AI based camera solutions to web-apps that track our parts throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. Our function is responsible for providing the right parts at the right time to our manufacturing colleagues, as well as managing the storage of our finished major units in our automatic warehouses.

What will you be doing?

  • Creating and implementing micro-service applications that will improve our colleagues’ day to day operations.
  • Offering consultancy to the wider business on how they can improve their processes through the use of digitalisation, AI and business reporting.
  • Managing and visualising the masses of data that are being produced every minute.
  • Training and up-skilling less experienced colleagues on how to make more data-driven decision making.
  • Innovating and digitalising processes alongside senior colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Studying towards an IT related Bachelor's degree, whether that is Computer Science, Data Science or another discipline and on track to achieve a 2:1 or above.  
  • Competency in either C# .NET or Java as well as SQL. Some experience in Python or R would be advantageous.
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, data visualisation tools, namely Power BI, Tableau or QlikView.
  • A general understanding of the Agile lifecycle.
  • A willingness to learn as well as to teach.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
