Our UK headquarters is based in Worcester where all the main functions of the business are located including the manufacturing of gas boilers. We have a further site in Clay Cross Derbyshire where our oil boilers are manufactured.

The Role

Based in Worcester, you will have the chance to work for a dynamic company to enrich your knowledge and experience. During your 12 month internship, you will have the opportunity to support on a range of topics and become an integral part of the team. We have a number of placements available within the Research & Development team. These include:

Product Quality

The role of the Engineering Product Quality Intern will provide opportunities to gain hands on experience and develop work skills that are valuable and transferable in industry post degree. Working with qualified engineers in determining and realising product reliability through accelerated ageing testing and robustness testing is a key target of this role. Understanding “root cause” of failure and creating test conditions to excite the failure creates opportunities to design and build bespoke test rigs.  Project team working activities, reporting test result findings to key stakeholders and supporting the technical call centre team with customer issues all help to develop your communication skills. Within this role, you will support departmental processes such as Lean and KPIs, you will also attend/support FMEA's and gain exposure to problem solving techniques such as QD, Ishikawa, mind map and 5 whys.

Design Intern

As the Design Intern, you will be responsible for preparing drawings, ECRs, procurement of parts and generally support the design team with their tasks. You will also ensure parts are available for any sample builds. Your key responsibilities in the role will include: liaising with the purchasing in order to track delivery date and with product reliability and quality Z test to check the progress and status of any testing. You will use various MS Office tools to create reports and progress documents as well as assisting with technical support of the product to all other relevant departments within the organisation with new product introduction, major modifications and existing products. Finally, you will assist in the creation of Installation and User Instructions for New Products and modification and document, as required, a best method of working e.g. when using the 3D CAD system.

In addition to gaining engineering knowledge and experience, you will be a key support to our Contact Centre, answering inbound phone calls. This will allow you to develop and enhance your communication skills for the future.

Qualifications

  • Be an undergraduate student (studying an Engineering focused degree) with a desire to complete a 12 month work placement as part of degree studies.
  • Be a capable 3D CAD user and able to interpret & create technical drawings.
  • Good organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Has the ability to adapt quickly to changing working environments and is ready to embrace new ways of working through digitalisation.
  • Has the confidence to challenge and create new ideas.
  • Has the capability to work well in a team as well as independently, using own initiative.
  • Has a quality mind-set with high attention to detail.
  • Can communicate confidently with people at all levels, both written and verbal (including on the telephone).
