A vacation scheme is a great way for you to experience life at Burges Salmon and see whether it could be right for you. It's also an excellent opportunity for us to get to know you and help shape your career.

During your two-week vacation scheme, you’ll gain a real insight into our award-winning law firm as you:

  • work in two departments of your choice
  • get involved in ‘real’ work
  • have the chance to go to client meetings and visit court
  • attend skills sessions run by trainees and solicitors
  • get to know colleagues up and down the firm through social and sports events.

Every year we run a winter vacation scheme (one week), a spring vacation scheme (two weeks) and two summer vacation schemes (two weeks each), which are open to anyone who is eligible to apply for a training contract – regardless of your degree discipline.

We recruit between 60-70% of our trainees from the vacation scheme. You’ll be offered a training contract interview at the end of your scheme and if we decide that we’re right for each other, you'll be offered a training contract.

Our vacation schemes are open to penultimate year law students, final year students of any degree discipline, graduates and those considering a change in career.

During the vacation scheme you will have the opportunity to visit two departments of your choice over a two-week period.

Under the guidance of your supervisor, you will have the chance to attend court visits or client meetings as well as skills sessions run by trainees and solicitors. In addition to this, there are many social and sports events throughout the placement that offer a real insight into life as a trainee solicitor. Please note that we will follow government guidelines regarding social distancing and we will make the decision nearer the time to run the schemes virtually if it is advised to do so.

Vacation schemes are part of the recruitment process for trainee solicitors so a keen interest in a career in commercial law is essential.

All participants are offered a training contract interview at the end.

Vacation schemes will take place on the following dates:

Spring - 12-23 April 2021

Summer - 7-18 June 2021 and 21 June - 2 July 2021
