We are looking for an entry level R&D Consultant to join our Business Tax team.

Our R&D team are responsible for assisting with a range of innovation incentives for clients of the Firm. Our client base ranges from high technology start-ups through to architect practices to large multinational businesses.

The team prepares a large number of R&D tax relief claims for SME businesses and team members are responsible for identifying other opportunities such as patent box, video games tax relief (VGTR) and grants to widen and manage our relationship with the client.

This mix of projects allows the team to have a varied client portfolio and to get hands-on experience of preparing submissions, which allows everyone to develop a breadth of experience.

Key aspects of the role include

  • Preparing and completing R&D tax claims, liaising with the client’s tax advisor to submit amended tax computations and communications with HM Revenue & Customs to ensure efficient processing of the R&D claims
  • Assisting with work on patent box, VGTR, grant submission and R&D strategy work with clients.
  • Attending technical discussion with clients and preparing draft claim documentation for submission to HM Revenue & Customs for review.
  • Assisting with reviewing R&D claims as part of tax due diligence assessment.
  • Dealing with client queries in respect of the work and understanding when to involve others to provide technical responses.

What you'll need

  • An interest in, and curiosity about, science and technology, and a desire to work in a consulting environment to assist businesses exploit the latest advances in these areas
  • A 2.1 Degree in science, technology, engineering or information science subject or 2.1 Degree in humanities subject with a second degree involving computer modelling or programming
  • A minimum of 120 UCAS Tariff points from your top 3 A-levels, or equivalent (300 using the old tariff)
  • A minimum of Level 5 (B grade using the old system) in GSCE Maths and English Language, or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally with internal and external clients
  • An excellent command of the English language (oral and written)
