The Medical Technology Division is looking for engineering interns with strong practical and analytical skills. Successful applicants will be motivated self-starters with a passion for engineering and technology. The placement will involve working in project teams with our experienced engineers, physicists and designers to develop a wide range of medical products and applying your engineering skills to all stages of the development life-cycle. You will take responsibility for design challenges and technical problems, participating in concept generation, research, design and testing.

The internship is a 1-year placement intended for students who have completed 2 or 3 years of their engineering programme. We are considering applications for the following groups and applicants may choose to indicate which role(s) they are interested in in their application, however this is optional:

  • Mechanical Design Engineering
  • Fluidics and Simulation
  • Mechatronics and Systems

Role description

You will work within a team of highly talented, multi-disciplinary engineers on major development projects, applying your practical and analytical abilities to realise novel medical technologies for our clients around the globe. You will participate in projects covering all stages of the development life-cycle, applying novel technologies in the field of medical device development. You will have the opportunity to create exciting cutting-edge technology in areas such as diagnostics, drug delivery, surgical and acute care, Bioinnovation and digital health.

Specific responsibilities

The day to day work will bring a variety of challenges and experiences and is likely to involve the design and building of test rigs, running test programmes, engineering analysis and design work for a range of multidisciplinary projects. Interns will be expected to produce high quality written records of their work and to present ideas and findings to colleagues and clients.

Requirements

A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • An excellent academic record
  • Have completed 2 or 3 years of a relevant MEng degree programme, or equivalent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage their time effectively
  • Interest and ability in problem solving and creativity
