    Why we need you

    Cancer Research UK is the world’s largest charity dedicated to beating all types of cancer. We now have an opportunity for you to join us as an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres (ECMC) Project Liaison Intern.

    Funded by Cancer Research UK and the health departments from the UK nations, the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres (ECMC) network is made up of 18 adult and 11 paediatric ECMCs across the UK, that are dedicated to supporting pioneering, early-stage clinical trials and translation of scientific discoveries into new cancer treatments for patients. The ECMC Programme Office supports the activities of the network.

    A key focus area for the ECMC network is to be globally competitive in research delivery and to do this we are developing an accelerated pathway for early phase clinical trials. This is a national transformation project and along with other ECMC network strategy projects will look at how we can make a significant change to setting up trials and attract industry to partner with us to bring new treatments to UK patients.

    What will I be doing?

    We are looking for an intern to work across the ECMC project team ensuring solutions are created and tested by engaging with a wide group of key stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to be part of a national transformation project. Learning and gaining experience of project management, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, workshop planning and communications.

    This role will involve:

    • Being responsible for supporting the delivery of key projects within the ECMC Programme office  
    • Engaging with stakeholders including pharma companies in project deliverables  
    • Organising and helping facilitate meetings of diverse groups of stakeholders   
    • Supporting with the delivery of network workshops and events under the guidance of the Project Manager 
    • Assisting with project planning and administration  
    • Creating presentations and reports 
    • Assisting with process mapping and analysis  
    • Contributing to ECMC communication channels as relevant (newsletter, website, reports)

    What skills are we looking for?

    You’ll be able to bring to the role:

    Application Process

    • Stage 1: Online application 

    Complete an online application form – you’ll be asked to answer a motivational competency question and upload your CV.

    • Stage 2: Assessment – Approximately w/c 27th June

    If your initial application is successful you will then be invited to complete our new situational judgment test. The test poses real life scenarios that a CRUK intern might be met with in their day to day role and asks how you would tackle that scenario. This is un-timed and multiple choice. Please let us know if you think you might require adjustments for this assessment.

    • Stage 3: Audio Submission – Approximately w/c 4th July

    If you are successful in the previous stage, you will be asked to complete an audio submission, answering competency-based questions. The questions will be emailed to you and you will have a few days to submit a response via an audio recording (no video required).

    • Stage 4: Interviews - Approximately 2nd-12th August

    If you are successful in the previous stage, you will then be invited to a face-to-face interview at our head office or online via Teams, with representatives from the team you are applying to.
