The BCP Electrical Systems team is chartered to provide intelligent, reliable, cost effective Electrical and Electronics components and systems to the Backhoe Loader (BHL) and Compact Wheel Loader (CWL) Prime Product Groups for use in these machines across the world.

The role

This position is for a Graduate Associate Engineer requiring an electrical or electronics engineering degree and will be a part of the UK-based Electrical System team providing electrical & electronics support to the BHL and CWL machine products.

  • Working both as part of a team and individually, you will be learning and working with the Engineering Team Leaders and peers on all electrical & electronic system current production activities that relate primarily to BHL and CWL machines.
  • Liaising very closely with the Current Product teams, you will learn and contribute to every stage of the continuous improvement process including:
    • Manufacturing line support
    • Fault analysis and troubleshooting
    • Drawing revision
    • Trial fit-up and validation of changes
    • Modification of manufacturing in process verification (IPV) test systems
    • Supporting the introduction of changes onto the manufacturing floor.
  • You will be working closely with other supporting areas of the business such as the Electronics team and the Product Support team and will be expected to be a contributing member of various Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects.
  • You will also be called upon to learn and support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities taking work direction from the BHL and CWL Electrical Team Leaders.
  • This role will include the update of electrical schematics, designing / routing / packing of harnesses and the release of components into production.
  • As part of the role you will be interfacing with both internal and external suppliers as well as the other departments within BCP Desford.

The role may include travel both within and outside the UK to customer / supplier sites.

About you

  • It is essential that applicants should have achieved or be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 in one of the following disciplines: Electrics or Electronic Engineering
  • Other relevant disciplines may be considered

The role requires a self-starter with proven technical, communication and teaming skills. Specifically, candidates must have the ability to communicate technical information effectively and professionally with team members and others in the work group, as well employees in other business units as well as with customers and suppliers.

Previous experience of designing, developing, and introducing electrical and electronics components and/or systems in mobile applications is a plus and will be greatly valued. This would include previous experience using PTC Creo software, specifically for cabling / harnessing and schematics. Experience with the CAT data systems for data management and releasing (EDS, Teamcenter) is also highly desirable. Hands-on practical technical experience and a good appreciation of associated vehicle sub-systems such as hydraulics, engines and transmissions are also strongly desired and highly valued.
