Caterpillar Leicester is part of the Building Construction Products (BCP) division, manufacturing a range of world class Backhoe Loaders (BHL) and Compact Wheel Loaders (CWL), as part of the wider BCP range. Products that are reliable, cost effective, versatile, and adaptable.

As a Graduate Trainee, you will be part of a 2-year Graduate Development program, allowing you to rotate within Manufacturing Engineering and within other related teams to build core Engineering skills and product knowledge. 

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will assist in the creation, development, and documentation of new processes to optimise safety and efficiency in line with Caterpillar Production System guiding principles, across the product range. This will include supporting the Production Assembly or Logistics teams for products built at Building Construction Products, Leicester.

As a Manufacturing Engineering Graduate your responsibilities could include-

  • Create and develop Standard Work to improve process safety and quality. Produce instructions to Caterpillar Production System & ISO9001 standards for assembly processes
  • Create and review risk assessments to drive safety improvements in new and current processes
  • Use CAD software to design new tooling and equipment, and develop facility layouts
  • Liaise with suppliers to procure new or replacement tooling which includes jigs and fixtures
  • Problem solving and continuous improvement activities in the current production environment
  • Support resolution of quality issues using 6 Sigma tools, including collaboration with other departments
  • Use analytics and take the vast quantity of data we record every day and interrogate it for insights providing visual data driven dashboards.
  • Process Efficiency improvements, using lean methodology and processes to improve material flow throughout the facility, reducing waste and improving throughput
  • Liaise with other teams and provide feedback and support
  • Adhere to the company's Health and Safety policy and safe working practices

After the graduate scheme

After successful completion of the rotational programme, you will progress into a key role where you will directly contribute to the operational and project activity that is at the heart of our business. We will provide you with the training and support you need to be successful at Caterpillar.

About you

Although this is an engineering scheme, we recognise the value that other STEM based qualifications bring to our team. As the type of roles within our business have become more diverse, we are looking for people who are open minded, excellent problem solvers and who have an ability to learn quickly. Prior engine knowledge is not required. 

It is essential that applicants should have achieved or be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 in one of the following disciplines:

  • Engineering
  • Materials
  • Maths
  • Science
