Job description

The employee will join CGG Satellite Mapping, part of CGG’s Energy Transition & Environment (ETE) business line based in Edenbridge, UK.

We harness the unique capabilities of Earth observation satellites, providing innovative mapping and monitoring solutions, and access to the best imagery and elevation data, across a variety of applications and markets including Energy, Mining, Engineering, Environment and Defence.

This group is expanding rapidly, with a diverse collection of roles opening up through 2022.

Working within the IT team, the Junior Service Desk Technician will be responsible for undertaking a range of IT support requests spanning hardware, software and systems.

This is an entry-level role that would suit someone wishing to get started in the IT Support industry. The skills candidates can expect to develop include:

  • Advanced troubleshooting and support
  • Cyber Security
  • Working with Large Company/Enterprise Windows tools
    • Domains/SCCM/MECM
    • Software License servers
    • Remote Control and working
  • Virtualisation
  • Windows/Linux integration (Networking)
  • Basic knowledge of satellite remote sensing

Principle accountabilities

  • Respond to IT service desk requests from staff
  • Routine software maintenance tasks
  • Basic hardware commissioning and maintenance
  • System monitoring using existing monitoring tools and maintenance of same
  • Hardware and software asset management
  • Network management
  • Working with other CGG office service desks
  • Other IT support tasks

Person spec                   

  • Enthusiasm to interact with the team and across disciplines at CGG Satellite Mapping.
  • Ability to work well both in a team and independently (where required).
  • Ability to take initiative and to communicate well to solve problems.

Qualifications

  • A level or BTEC HNC level computer science qualification
    • Required Skills
      • Microsoft Windows
      • Install Software
      • Basic problem solving
    • Desirable Skills
      • Knowledge of Linux
      • Especially Debian Linux
      • (As used in Raspbian/Raspberry PI OS)
  • Industry experience may be an advantage but is not a prerequisite and full training will be given
  • The role is based in CGG’s Edenbridge office, which houses CGG Satellite Mapping.
    • Driving license and car advantageous due to office location
