Our vacation schemes are the perfect opportunity for you to experience life with our firm. You’ll spend two weeks with us and, although some of your time will be about you getting to know what we do and who we work with, you’ll have plenty of time to get to know our trainees, associates and partners too.

Get a Training Contract

We recruit our trainees exclusively via our vacation schemes. As we recruit two years in advance for our training contracts, you should start applying for a vacation scheme in the second year of a law degree or the third year of a non-law degree. We offer training contracts in London and Manchester, with an option to complete a seat in our Guildford office as part of the London training contract.

What to expect

  • Be immersed in our firm and the work we do from day one
  • Experience real work by observing cases, drafting responses, providing advice and preparing research
  • Get involved in significant deals, meetings and negotiations
  • Your contribution will be rewarded too – London: £400 per week
  • See how our lawyers provide a complete legal service to clients in our core practice areas
  • Attend court hearings, arbitrations and mediations to see the different types of litigation available first-hand
  • Attend seminars, networking events and social events with colleagues and clients

Your Career

If you’re keen to embark on a career in law, a vacation scheme with us could be the perfect stepping stone. These two weeks will give you a real insight into our firm, the opportunity to learn about how the law is applied in our core industry sectors and we’ll always aim to enable you to be placed in the department of your choice.

That’s not all…

The vacation scheme is your opportunity to get to know us, and our opportunity to get to know you. Across the scheme you'll complete a number of assessments, including an interview. We'll use these, together with feedback from your supervisor and team, to decide whether to offer you a training contract.

How we support you

Throughout your time with us, you can expect unrivalled training and support. You’ll have a dedicated buddy on hand to help you over the two weeks – and beyond if you accept a training contract with us. You’ll also receive guidance from a senior fee earner along with coaching and support from our graduate team – especially when it comes to your training contract interviews.

Before starting the application process

Spend time researching the firm, but you can only learn so much from websites. Attend law fairs, dinners, insight days and other in-house events to get a real feel and culture for the firms you’re applying to.

Ahead of law fairs and events, make sure you prepare some intelligent questions to ask. We take note of individuals who have impressed with good questions.

Take the time to read through the application form, establish what each question is asking and plan your responses accordingly. This is an excellent opportunity to draw upon your previous experience and show us your personality.

Tailor your application form and be specific. If you can replace Clyde & Co with another firm’s name and the answer still applies, this isn’t specific enough.
